In a world marked by geopolitical tensions and regional conflicts, Türkiye is seeking to enhance its partnership with the United States. During an address at the “100 Years of Friendship Gala” held in New York, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan emphasized the importance of strengthening dialogue and cooperation between the two NATO allies. He pointed to the positive results that their collaboration has already yielded in areas like the Middle East.
President Erdoğan outlined potential areas for expanded cooperation, including nuclear energy, liquefied natural gas, civil aviation, high technology, and the defense industry. He advocated for the removal of barriers that hinder joint defense production, highlighting Türkiye’s burgeoning defense sector. The country’s defense exports have notably surged from approximately $248 million two decades ago to surpass $10 billion, a testament to Türkiye’s growing influence in the global defense market.
Furthermore, Erdoğan encouraged American investors to explore opportunities in Türkiye, citing favorable conditions for foreign investment and a new competitive incentive framework being launched by Ankara. He described this as part of a broader investment drive aimed at bolstering economic ties between the two nations.
US Senator Chris Coons also addressed attendees at the gala, underscoring the longstanding partnership between Türkiye and the United States. He highlighted the crucial role that business ties and entrepreneurship play in reinforcing bilateral relations.
The event, which celebrated a century of diplomatic and economic connections, brought together a mix of senior Turkish and US officials, alongside business leaders. It served as a platform to discuss and promote the deep-rooted ties and future cooperation between the two countries.
